Thoracic wall pain overview

Thoracic wall pain is felt around the ribs, upper back or chest wall. It is commonly linked to posture, muscle overload, joint irritation, or nerve sensitivity.

We assess breathing-related triggers, movement patterns, and whether the pain is localised to the chest wall. This helps identify treatable causes and reduce unnecessary worry when serious causes have been excluded.

Treatment often includes education, mobility and strengthening, breathing and posture strategies, and targeted interventions when a specific pain generator is identified.
